I hadn’t heard of this guy, but regardless it’s shocking to me that someone can die from a seizure, especially in a busy place where it’s likely to be noticed and reported immediately, there are paramedics on site, and where there’s a decent chance that you can find some travelling doctor almost immediately. Maybe I just need to know more about seizures (most of what I know comes from first aid training at work, and having had dogs who had seizures).

My guess is that the codeine and Xanax are what killed him, rather the the resulting seizure.

Death by seizure is statistically rare.  The seizure was most likely just part of whatever was going on that killed him, likely an overdose.
